Congratulations to our featured traveler Jenni Adkins. Our featured traveler Jenni Adkins is a travel therapist and is our featured traveler of the month in December 2016.
Some words from her recruiter, Dara:
“Jenni has been the most flexible, detail oriented, caring and ethical traveler ever! She embodies the spirit of a “true traveler” by being open for change and communicating as best as she can. She has accepted the responsibility of being a mentor for future travelers and is an absolute delight to work with :).”
We asked Jenni to write about her experiences while on assignment with Host…
Q: If you could have one super power what would it be and why?
A: Multi Lingual Girl. Yeah, I’m pretty sure I just created my own super power. I think it would be pretty cool to be able to communicate with anyone and everyone across the globe.
Q: What has been your favorite experience since you have been traveling?
A: My favorite experience is the experience itself!
Q: What has been one of your favorite places/spots you have visited while on assignment?
A: Waterloo, Iowa believe it or not. It taught me never to snub your nose at the idea of ANY assignment because they all have something to offer in some way, shape, or form. Iowa had the nicest people, quaintest little towns, and BEST biking trails.
How did Jenni get into travel therapy and how was her first assignment?
Q: Why did you try travel therapy?
A: I tried my hand at a few full time gigs before taking the leap and signing up to travel. My innate sense of curiosity and need for adventure made having a “real” job a major drag. I thought to myself, life was just too short to stay in one place. I’ve never been one for routine. Having the option to do what I love to do (TRAVEL) and what I have to do (WORK) was like a dream come true and come to find out, a natural fit!
Q: What was one thing you were scared of before your first assignment and how did you combat that?
A: I was a bit nervous to be the only OT in a setting I had never worked in while supervising COTAs which I had only ever read about in books! Come to find out, if you just trust in yourself and take things one day at a time, everything else will just fall into place. The COTAs didn’t bite by the way and it was a very rewarding experience overall.
Q: What is your guilty pleasure after a long day at work?
A: A nice LONG bike ride.
How would Jenni describer her recruiter?
Q: What is one word that sums up your recruiter, Dara?
A: The Best-est-ist.
